Hello everyone,

I'd like to take this moment to congratulate the Miami Heat in winning the 2006 NBA Championship. However, despite their victory they will not be joining the select group that will compete for the All-Time NBA Playoffs. Here are the sixteen teams in their first round match-ups:

(1) 1995-96 Chicago Bulls vs. (16) 1969-70 New York Knicks
(2) 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers vs. (15) 2004-05 San Antonio Spurs
(3) 1966-67 Philadelphia 76ers vs. (14) 1980-81 Boston Celtics
(4) 1985-86 Boston Celtics vs. (13) 1964-65 Boston Celtics
(5) 1970-71 Milwaukee Bucks vs. (12) 1959-60 Boston Celtics
(6) 1982-83 Philadelphia 76ers vs. (11) 1990-91 Chicago Bulls
(7) 1986-87 Los Angeles Lakers vs. (10) 1998-99 San Antonio Spurs
(8) 1988-89 Detroit Pistons vs. (9) 1999-2000 Los Angeles Lakers

After each round, the teams will be 'reseeded' to assure the best team is identified through the playoffs just like the All-Time Stanley Cup Playoffs going on right now.

Hello everyone,

The day before the start of the All-Time Stanley Cup Finals between the (2) 1988-89 Calgary Flames and the (5) 1981-82 New York Islanders, I thought I'd let you see the stats of the two clubs. One sees striking differences between the two clubs, specially in shots allowed and goals scored. Here are the stats:

1988-89 Calgary Flames Playoff Totals
Goaltending W-L SOs SF SV SV% GAA
Mike Vernon 12-8 5 639 607 .950 1.60

Scoring G A Pts.
Mullen 9 6 15
Nieuwendyk 6 7 13
Loob 8 3 11
MacInnis 6 5 11
Roberts 4 7 11
Suter 5 5 10
Gilmour 2 5 7
Macoun 2 4 6
Hrdina 1 4 5
Otto 1 4 5
Fleury 0 5 5
Hunter 0 2 2
McCrimmon 0 2 2
Ramage 0 2 2
MacLellan 0 1 1
Murzyn 0 1 1
GFA 44 (2.20)

1981-82 New York Islanders Playoff Totals
Goaltending W-L SOs SF SV SV% GAA
Billy Smith 12-5 4 486 456 .938 1.76

Scoring G A Pts.
Bossy 19 16 35
Trottier 12 6 18
Gillies 6 9 15
Tonelli 5 10 15
Potvin 3 9 12

Kallur 1 2 3
Bourne 0 3 3
Lane 0 3 3
Morrow 1 1 2
Langevin 0 2 2
GFA 59 (3.47)

In looking at it, Mike Vernon has a better save % and Goals Against especially against the shot total he's faced. However Billy Smith has a better offense in front of him to help out if he has an off night as well as a defense to help prevent massive totals of shots against him.

On the offensive side, Mike Bossy looks like he is a Conn Smythe MVP candidate, if not the top contender for the Islanders. While Joe Mullen of the Flames doesn't have as many points then Bossy has goals or assists. The Finals are going to be interesting and the question of which team of the 80s, the team from the beginning or the end of the decade will skate away with the All-Time Stanley Cup will be answered.

***THE ALL-TIME NBA PLAYOFFS***
As the 2006 NBA Finals take place with the Dallas Mavericks up 2 games to 0 on the Miami Heat, I would like to report that if the Mavericks when the 2006 NBA Finals whether in 4 games or all 7 games, they will qualify for the All-Time NBA Playoffs with at least a .716 record good for 15th in the tournament that will send the 2005 Spurs down to 16th and knocking the 1970 Knicks out.
