Game 3-New York

(2) '88-89 Flames 4, (5) '81-82 Islanders 3 (2OT)

The Flames' Gary Suter scored the game-winning goal at 12:11 in the second OT to give the '88-89 Cup champions a come-from-behind victory to cut the Islanders' series lead in half. The Islanders had a 3-1 lead at 12:14 as Clark Gillies scored only seven seconds later it was cut to 3-2 by the Flames. The Flames scored the game-tying goal on a 5-on-4, empty net situation thanks to Joe Nieuwendyk. The Flames' Mike Vernon had a 37 for 40 night against the Islanders' Billy Smith 41 for 45 game. The victory assures Calgary that they'll return home for Game 5 while the Islanders just 38 seconds from taking a 3 games to nil lead in the series looks to regroup.
