The '81-82 New York Islanders dominated the '88-89 Calgary Flames 6-1 to clinch the All-Time Stanley Cup with a 4 games to 1 series victory. After the Flames tied it up early in the 2nd Period at 1-1, the Islanders led by Mike Bossy with two goals and an assist went on a rampage that knocked Mike Vernon out of net for the Flames. Islander goaltender Billy Smith had a 19 for 20 night against Vernon's 24 for 29 night followed by Rick Wamsley's 6 for 7 mopping up performance. As the result of his overall efforts in the playoffs, the Islanders' Right Winger Mike Bossy was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as Playoff MVP.
