DETROIT-- The Flames had a penatly filled game, but it didn't matter as they scored and Mike Vernon shut out the Red Wings. With his 30 for 30 performance Mike Vernon outdid Dominik Hasek who had a 27 for 30 game. The 4 games to 2 series victory for the Flames gives them home-ice advantage in the semifinals against an opponent to be decided.

MONTREAL-- The Bruins scored the only road victory of the series and it was the clincher as the Bruins' defense clapped down on the Canadiens' offense. Frank Brimsek's 26 for 26 shutout bested the Canadiens' Jacques Plante 35 for 37 performance. With a 4 games to 2 victory by the Bruins gives the city of Boston some happy revenge against Montreal as the Canadiens have dominated the postseason encounters between the two franchises. The Bruins must now wait for Game 7 between the '76-77 Canadiens and the '71-72 Bruins to know if they have home-ice advantage or whom their playing.
