Summary
The upset of the tournament so far was in the Camp Region as 11-seeded UConn went to Corvallis and upended the 6-seeded Beavers of Oregon State 35-26. The Beavers archrivals, the 4-seeded Oregon Ducks got a FG with 6 seconds left on the lock to escape the upset-minded Western Michigan Broncos in their Bryant Region 1st Round match up 22-20. And the top three 'Mid-Major' seeds of Utah (Rockne #2), Boise State (Rockne #3), and TCU (Robinson #3) dismantled their opponents to advance to the 2nd Round.

Also advancing was Camp 1-seed USC in a shutout over Hawaii, Bryant 6-seed BYU thumping LSU, and Robinson 8-seed California winning a squeaker over Wake Forest. This set up the following 2nd Round match-ups: In the Camp Region, USC hosting North Carolina while UConn travels to Oklahoma State; the Rockne Region sees Utah playing host to fellow Mid-Major Ball State while Boise State welcomes Boston College; in the Robinson Region, California heads east to face top seeded Texas while TCU plays host to the Spartans of Michigan State; and the Bryant Region finds Oregon playing host to Pittsburgh while BYU heads to Columbus to face Ohio State.
