Summary
Only a single upset based on seeding occured as 12th-seeded Wisconsin Badgers went into Blackburg and destroyed the host 5-seeded Virginia Tech Hokies in their Robinson Region 1st Round match-up. However, it was 13-seed South Florida that held a 24-21 advantage over 4-seed Georgia Tech going into the 4th Quarter of their Rockne Region contest that almost had the early headlines but the Yellow Jackets were able to avoid the upset. It looked like the 8-seeded Tar Heels had their hands full with the 9-seeded Midshipmen of Navy through three quarters before North Carolina took their Camp Region contest over in the 4th quarter scoring 38 points unanswered points and the last 41 of the game.
Elsewhere it was Florida, Penn State, Florida State, Boston College, and West Virginia easily advancing in their 1st Round contests. One match-up for the 2nd Round is set in the Bryant Region as 1-seeded Florida will host 8-seeded West Virginia.
