All-Time Stanley Cup Playoffs 1st Round

(1) '76-77 Canadiens 4, (16) '50-51 Maple Leafs 2
MONTREAL-- The '76-77 Canadiens dominated a penalty plagued Game Two to take a 2-0 series lead against the '50-51 Maple Leafs. Neither team was offensively minded as the two goaltenders faced only 42 shots combined, fewer than either had in the 3 OT Game 1. The Canadiens' Ken Dryden saved 15 of 17 shots while the Maple Leafs' Al Rollins saved only 21 of 25 shots. The Canadiens' Doug Risenbrough scored two goals to lead Montreal to the win.'

MONTREAL-- As penalty filled gamed continue to occur in playoffs first round this was a back and forth game with numerous penalties, but no powerplay goal. After the Avalanche took a 1-0 lead midway through the 1st Period, Montreal came alive. The Canadiens' Maurice Richard and Fern Majeau scored within 3:30 of one another in the second period. But the Avalanche's Alex Tanguay tied the game within 4 minutes left in the game setting up overtime. But it was the Canadiens' Gerry Heffernan who got the puck past Patrick Roy had 34 saves for 37 shots to the Canadiens' Bill Durnan who had 44 saves to 46 shots.

NEW YORK-- The '81-82 Islanders dominated the '51-52 Red Wings once again 6-0 to take a 2 games to none. The Islander's Mike Bossy and Brent Sutter each scored 2 goals getting past the Red Wings' goaltender Terry Sawchuk who saved only 31 of 37 shots while the Islander's Billy Smith had his second shut out in as many games.

DALLAS-- Game Two's dominate player was Ed Belfour who's stellar 35 for 35 shutout goaltending held up the goal by Mike Modano at 2:31 in the 1st Period. The victory tied the series at 1-1 a piece even as the Red Wings behind an equal stellar effort by Dominik Hasek's 33 saves of 34 shots. The victory means that both teams will be returning to Dallas for Game 5.
