All-Time Super Bowl Playoffs 1st Round

(8) '71 Cowboys 10, '55 Browns 6
DALLAS- The '71 Cowboys defense truly won the game as a interception by Cornell Green just 12 seconds into the game resulted in a TD for Green and the difference maker as Otto Graham's offensive attack was stalled. The Browns defense did the same to the Cowboy's offense as both sides settled for field goals the rest of the game.

(5) '79 Steelers 9, (12) '58 Colts 0
PITTSBURGH-- The defenses of both teams held legendary QBs Bradshaw and Unitas along with the offenses they to 3 FGs between them, all going to the Steelers. The game had all the trademarks that the Steelers teams were known for and that proved to be the difference in the game itself. The victory assures the Steelers a date next week with the 4th-seeded Washington Redskins in the Quarterfinals.

There you have it ladies and gentlemen, the first day of the playoffs is over and some interesting results have been made.

So you tomorrow as the other half of the Stanley Cup playoff series begin and the last two 1st Round Super Bowl Playoff games take place.

Hello everyone, this a multi-purpose article. Because this weekend starts my ‘Official’ All-Time Greatest Team Playoffs in the NHL and NFL as WWE Backlash also takes place, so I will have predictions.

First, the All-Time Playoffs. Let’s look at a preliminary breakdown by decade, this is only preliminary because of this year’s NBA playoffs could change things.

1900s: 3 (3 MLB ’05,’07,’09)
1910s: 3 (3 MLB ’10,’12,’17)
1920s: 4 (1 NHL ’20); (3 MLB ’22,’27,’29)
1930s: 3 (1 NHL ’39); (2 MLB ’32,’39)
1940s: 1 (1 NHL ’44);
1950s: 6 (3 NHL ’51,’52,’59); (2 NFL ’55,’58); (1 MLB ’54)
1960s: 5 (1 NHL ’68); (3 NBA ’60,’65,’67); (1 NFL ’62)
1970s: 11 (3 NHL ’72,’74,’77); (3 NBA ’70,’71,’72); (3 NFL ’71,’72,’79); (2 MLB ’70,’76)
1980s: 11 (3 NHL ’82,’87,’89); (5 NBA ’81,’83,’86,’87,’89); (2 NFL ’85,’89); (1 MLB ’84)
1990s: 9 (1 NHL ’99); (3 NBA ’91,’96,’99); (4 NFL ’91,’94,’96,’99); (1 MLB ’98)
2000s: 4 (2 NHL ’01,’02); (2 NBA ’00,’05)

Now this is a little weighed towards the middle-late 20th century only because of the restrictions to the NFL (1950-present) and the NBA (began in the late 1940s) while the NHL and MLB are either over or near 100-years old. But looking at each league’s team spacing we see a where non-expansion, expansion, and post-expansion factor into the greatest teams.

The NHL’s spacing shows that the three decades represented by 3 teams (1950s, 1970s, and 1980s) show then post-World War II player boom in the NHL occurred, the mega-expansion era where star-studded teams look better against weaker spread out teams, and the superstar era that occurred as more players from around the world found their way to the league.

The NFL’s spacing shows how talent collecting in the 1970s found the spreading of it the next decade only to see how free agency and the salary cap made temporary great teams with a collection for one year.

The NBA’s spacing shows the story of the league itself from the dominance of the Celtics in the 1960s and their fierce rivalry with the 76ers late in the decade. The super teams at the beginning of the 1970s as young superstars from college entered the NBA before the sudden fall off the rest of the decade as the league seemed watered down in talent with the war with the ABA. It was one of the stars of the ABA along with the Bird-Magic feud created a ‘golden age’ for the league with the Thomas-led Pistons closing out the decade only for the next decade be dominated by the Jordan-Pippin Bulls only for the seceding star duos of Robinson-Duncan and Kobe-Shaq to take their places only for Duncan’s Spurs and the return of the Pistons and teamwork to start dominating.

Major League Baseball’s greatest teams shows the massive effect of free agency and expansion as talent spread so far out that a team in our time must be exordinarily great.

Now let’s look at the breakdown by individual years:
1999: Dallas Stars, San Antonio Spurs, and St. Louis Rams
1989: Calgary Flames, Detroit Pistons, and San Francisco 49ers
1972: Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Lakers, and Miami Dolphins

1996: Chicago Bulls and Green Bay Packers
1991: Chicago Bulls and Washington Redskins
1987: Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Lakers
1971: Milwaukee Bucks and Dallas Cowboys
1970: New York Knicks and Baltimore Orioles
1939: Boston Bruins and New York Yankees

The middle-to-late 20th century saw the most greatest years in sports when looking at greatest team contenders. It could be debated that either 1989 or 1999 saw the greatest sports years in history. In support for 1999, the New York Yankees repeated as World Champions and considering their previous year’s team made the contenders for the All-Time Greatest Team. In support for 1989, the Detroit Pistons would win a 2nd straight NBA Title the next year while the 49ers were repeating Super Bowl champion, and add to the fact that the Oakland A’s who won the World Series had lost the previous year and would lose the succeeding year.
Soon we’re going to see who the All-Time Greatest Teams in each sports league will be and starting tomorrow history will be made.

And now onto my brief predictions for Backlash this Sunday:

WWE CHAMPIONSHIP TRIPLE THREAT MATCH- John Cena (c) vs. Triple H vs. Edge w/Lita
I don't like Cena's chances to win especially with Money in the Back and ECW ONS coming up, so a title change and I'll say Triple H gets the win as the King of Kings reclaims the throne.

Shawn Michaels & 'GOD' defeat Vince & Shane McMahon to end this pointless feud.

RVD defeats Shelton Benjamin to retain the MitB title shot and win the IC Title.

Kane defeats The Big Show

Trish Stratus defeats WWE Women's Champion Mickie James via DQ

Carlito defeats Christ Masters

And Umaga defeats Ric Flair

Ladies and gentlemen, who is the greatest team in the history of MLB? NBA? NFL? NHL? The debate could rage forever, but what if there was some type of way to determine who was the best on the field, either in real life or the virtual field? Then of course the debate would be who should be included, how to determine, how to rank for a tournament, etc.

Well luckily others have done calculations that have created rankings that I have used to select the 12 (NFL) or 16 (MLB, NBA, & NHL) teams of all-time up to 2005. After looking through the Internet I have found web sites or articles that reveal these lists. Thus the lists below reflect them.

NHL
(Must have won the Stanley Cup; No multiple teams within few than five years; Franchises limited to four teams)
http://members.shaw.ca/hbtn/team_study/top_teams.htm

1999 Dallas Stars
2002 Detroit Red Wings
1972 Boston Bruins
1974 Philadelphia Flyers
1952 Detroit Red Wings

1960 Boston Celtics
1965 Boston Celtics
1981 Boston Celtics
2005 San Antonio Spurs*
1970 New York Knicks
* The 1950 Minneapolis Lakers would have been the 15th-seed, however WhatIfSports.com’s NBA Teams goes only to the 1951-52 season. The 2005 San Antonio Spurs 59-23, .720 regular season winning % and 16-7, .696 postseason winning % gave them a combined 75-105, .714 total winning %. It should be noted that several 2006 teams have a chance to be added to list.

NFL
(Only NFL and/or Super Bowl Champions since 1950 eligible)
1985 Chicago Bears
1996 Green Bay Packers (7.49)
1999 St. Louis Rams (6.91)
1991 Washington Redskins (6.89)
1979 Pittsburgh Steelers (6.69)
1962 Green Bay Packers (6.68)
1972 Miami Dolphins (6.63)
1971 Dallas Cowboys (6.61)

MLB
(Must have won the World Series; No multiple teams within few than five years; Franchises limited to four teams)
http://www.baseball-almanac.com/articles/best_major_league_teams_ever.shtml
1927 New York Yankees
1939 New York Yankees
1907 Chicago Cubs
1932 New York Yankees
1910 Philadelphia A’s
1905 New York Giants
1998 New York Yankees
1929 Philadelphia A’s
1909 Pittsburgh Pirates
1970 Baltimore Orioles
1912 Boston Red Sox
1976 Cincinnati Reds
1922 New York Giants
1954 New York Giants
1984 Detroit Tigers
1917 Chicago White Sox

As on how to determine the greatest team of all-time? Well as I mentioned before WhatIfSports.com exists and can simulate games. But how to do it. The lists above show the teams ranked ready for the playoffs. The NFL will go like today’s NFL with the top four seeds getting byes until the quarterfinals where they’ll face the four First Round victors in inverse order (i.e. the top ranked team gets the lowest surviving team). While in MLB, NBA, and NHL all sixteen teams will play in the first round in best-of-seven series, however they will ‘reseed’ after every round like today’s current NHL and MLB (to some extent) and not have a fixed bracket like today’s NBA. This will assure that in the quarterfinals there won’t be a 1 vs. 8 series along with a 10 vs. 15 series. Thus if the 12th or 16th-seed team were to win, it can’t be said they traveled an easy road and likewise if a top four seeded team were to win it’ll show that they were better than the supposedly ‘fluff’ teams in the tournament and when it came time for the bigger boys they were ready.

So when will this happen. Well since the NBA Playoffs this year could see a few teams win the title and get onto the All-Time Greatest Teams list, then they will wait until after the NBA Finals (if the Detroit Pistons or San Antonio Spurs win the NBA Title they automatically are included, if Dallas wins with a 16-7 or 16-8 record in the postseason they will qualify). I’m going to begin these All-Time Playoffs with the NHL in one week and possibly the NFL as well since they’ll only face off once a week. After the conclusion of the NHL All-Time Stanley Cup Playoffs along with the NFL All-Time Playoffs, this year’s NBA Playoffs will have most likely concluded and the All-Time teams firmly established to begin the playoffs if WhatIfSports has created the team profiles in time. Along with the NBA, the MLB All-Time Playoffs will begin as well. Look for daily updates to this blog on who the All-Time Playoffs are going until the greatest teams of All-Time are decided.

See you next week as the All-Time Stanley Cup Playoffs and All-Time Super Bowl Playoffs begin.

Hello everyone, I'm back for another post on my blog.

Basically I'm going to be complaining about how the WWE got its butt saved by their employees in the ring from the God-awful storytelling that led up to the biggest show of the year, WrestleMania XXII.

First off the Main Event, WWE Championship: John Cena defeated HHH via submission....

What the fucking hell!!! The announcers have been trying to save face for Cena for weeks and instead of giving the title to Triple H like they fucking should have, they let Cena go over, even though the crowd was clearly on H's side.

Now the aftermath so far has been good. Edge after beating Mick Foley, has gotten back into the title picture but Triple H hasn't left. At Backlash Cena defends the title against Triple H and Edge. Now so far the interaction between these three have been great and unless the writer monkeys fucking mess things up, it'll lead to a good match at Backlash were Triple H will win the title, most likely by beating Edge to save face for Cena for some anul reason like trying to protect him when the crowd already hates his guts.

My last entry on the blog, I said it would be better to have Edge defending the WWE Title against Triple H at WrestleMania while Cena remolded himself against Mick Foley. In the long run it would have been better because, while Triple H would have professed not liking what the crowd thought about him, he would still be cheered ala Ric Flair in the late 80s and early 90s and Stone Cold in late '96 and early '97 or The Rock in early '99 after WrestleMania XV. During all those times, the people backstage gave the crowd what they wanted and got fucking rich. But the writer monkeys today blew the chance for some $$$.

World Heavyweight Title Match: Rey Mysterio defeated Randy Orton and Kurt Angle pinning Orton.

The WWE decided to do the right thing and give Mysterio the title after the crap they made him endure with Orton since winning the Royale Rumble, especially in pinning Orton. Now with two months to prepare for Judgment Day, the WWE is either setting up an Mysterio-Angle match with Kurt turning heel in winning the King of the Ring tournament or a Mysterio-Batista angle that'll go along the lines of what the Batista-Guerrero feud would have been like. Either way it looks to be promising. This is going to be Mysterio's time at least until May, but later on in this entry I think the WWE could be setting up something special in June.

Women's Championship: Mickie James pinned Trish Stratus

While this wasn't an unexpected, the timing and storytelling to it totally sucked. The writer monkeys should have had Mickie win the title at New Year's Revolution or the Royale Rumble after she felt betrayed by Trish then turn into pseudo-Trish. Now with Trish becoming pseudo-Mickie and starting fucking mind games we're getting the storyline we should have going into WrestleMania. An insane champion getting even more psychiced out by her challenger who she decided to become only for her challenger to reverse everything on her. I just hope this storyline lasts into the middle of summer so Trish wins the title at Vengeance setting up an end all match at SummerSlam.

Money in the BaNk II: RVD gets the title shot

It all looked like Flair was going to win, setting up a Triple H-Flair match possibly at Vengeance or SummerSlam. But the WWE tricked us as Shelton Benjamin stole the show and RVD won the match. The Smackdown! guys didn't figure into this match and well they shouldn't considering everything. The major mistake was not having Booker T in the match to give it a little credibility on the Smackdown side, but the writer monkey's stuck him with the Boogyman.

But RVD's winning could mean that unlike Edge, he might not be waiting as long to cash in on his title shot. In June the second ECW One Night Stand will take place and unlike last year, RVD is healthy and will be able to compete at it. Now last year, Edge won MitB I to get a shot at the World Heavyweight Title that Batista held however when John Cena came over from Smackdown and Batista went to SD, Edge's title shot was then for the WWE Championship. Add to the fact that MitB II had fighters from both brands and you might have a big angle for ECW ONS.

Now rumor has it that'll be Triple H defending the WWE Championship against RVD at ONS and that isn't a bad call, RVD could win and hold the title for a few weeks before losing it back to HHH at Vengeance. But the smarter move could be a World Heavyweight Title match between Rey Mysterio and RVD at ECW One Night Stand. To men who were in ECW battling for the title, which if you were an ECW fan would make you by the PPV.

My scenario would be that Mysterio faces either Angle at Judgment Day or faces US Champion JBL in a title-vs-title or just plain World Heavyweight Title match. Batista would have returned by Judgment Day and is facing Angle in a battle of former champions who haven't gotten their rematches yet for the #1 Contendership. Mysterio wins as does Batista the next Friday Night Smackdown, Rey and Batista start talking about the Great American Bash when out come RVD with the briefcase. RVD then says, "Hey guys, I don't mean to interrupt, but before the G.A.B. there happens to a be a huge EXTREME event happening next month and it's called ECW One Night Stand. And since I'm Mr. Money in the Bank I've decided to cash in my title shot that night for the World Heavyweight Title.

At ECW One Night Stand, it'll basically be face vs. face but ECW fans won't care as the two will probably bring down the house before RVD wins. RVD and Mysterio do a respect thing in the middle of the ring.

Then you have several ways you can go with this.

1) a straight RVD vs. Batista match with Batista as a tweener, but wins the title then faces Angle at SummerSlam where Mysterio finishs a little fued with Orton to set up a Batista-Mysterio match at No Mercy where Batista turns heel on his friend Rey pissing of Beniot, RVD, possibly Lashley, and several other faces who like Rey. An injury storyline could be done or something.

2) a triple threat match as between RVD-Batista-Mysterio where Mysterio is taken out of the equation by Angle as Batista pins RVD to win the title at GAB. Angle then demands his title rematch from WrestleMania and Rey is pissed off that his rematch hasn't been honored leading to

a) another Triple Threat match with Angle substituted for RVD which Batista wins after accidently taking Mysterio out of the equation and leading to him successfully defending the title. Only to lead to a match between the two at No Mercy where Batista turns heel on Rey.

b) Batista vs. Angle at SummerSlam after Kurt beats Rey for the match only for Rey to screw Angle. The two have a brief little feud in which Rey gets a title shot at No Mercy only for Batista to turn heel.

3) an RVD-Batista-Mysterio match at GAB where Angle gets involved by taking RVD out of the equation leading to Batista wanting "his title back" destroys Rey and does a cocky pin to win the title. RVD challenges Batista for SummerSlam or a pissed of Rey does, either way Batista retains. Chris Beniot then comes back into the title picture as the possible Royale Rumble winner as RVD gets Batista at No Mercy. The Undertaker at Armaggedon and Royale Rumble with Lashley possibly at the US Champion looking to gain World Title gold as well.

Basically coming out of WrestleMania XXII in Chicago, the WWE could if they get their fucking writer monkey act together could have a killer Smackdown! Main Event for WrestleMania XXIII from Detroit.
